Description
Faith Ringgold’s Woman on a Bridge #1 of 5: Tar Beach (1988) is the first in a series of five large-scale quilts that tell the story of a young girl who soars from her Harlem rooftop in celebration of freedom, echoing the arc of Ringgold’s own life. This installation is complemented by pieces from European modernists who inspired Ringgold and contemporary American artists whose works reflect her legacy.
