John Proctor Is the Villain

Description

This thought-provoking new play, written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Tony winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders), asks whether AP English’s favorite good guy, The Crucible’s John Proctor, was really the hero we were taught he was. The story parallels the pressures faced by girls in a rural Georgia high school with those endured by the Salem teens. With themes of morality, purity culture and finding your voice, the production—more comedy then drama—asks tough questions.
