calendar_month

May 10, 2025 - Oct 26, 2025

Description

The Met’s annual Costume Institute exhibition is inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, with Miller serving as guest curator. The show focuses on the role of fashion in Black identity, tracing the evolution of the “Black dandy”—including the term’s origin and meaning—from 18th-century Europe to today.
