One of New York City’s oldest gay bars has gotten a refresh as of late with filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell’s (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) monthly Mattachine party, but it still retains its dive-bar qualities. Adorned with vintage photographs and charming rickety décor, Julius serves up great burgers, cheap drinks and a slice of gay history.
