J. Hood Wright Park

Description

Nestled between 173rd and 176th Streets and bounded by Fort Washington and Haven Avenues in Washington Heights, J. Hood Wright Park gives a much-needed green space and playground to this neighborhood. The land was acquired by the City in 1925 (at the time, the nearest playground was more than a mile away). The former owner of the site, J. Hood Wright, was a wealthy banker from Philadelphia who had a mansion on the western side of the park.
